Maroon Bellied Conures
Maroon-bellied conures are energetic and affectionate parrots that can live for 15-20+ years. Before bringing one home, you must consider their massive time commitment, potential for loud vocalizations, nippy personalities, and strict need for a parrot-proof environment free of toxic fumes and foods.
Social Needs: They require a minimum of 1-2 hours of out-of-cage interaction and training every day. Depriving them of attention can lead to behavioral issues, such as anxiety and feather plucking.
Affectionate but Feisty: While they are known for their sweet, cuddly, and inquisitive nature, they are also "nippy" parrots. They can be erratic, quickly shifting from wanting cuddles to biting, especially if overstimulated.
Intelligence: They require significant mental stimulation. Foraging toys, puzzle games, and consistent clicker training are mandatory to keep them from getting bored and destructive.
Unique Sounds: They have distinctive, rapid "clucking" sounds that they make when they feel safe and cuddly.
Housing: Due to their high energy, they require a surprisingly large cage. A cage measuring at least 20" x 20" x 36" with appropriate bar spacing is necessary, heavily outfitted with perches and shreddable toys.
