Indian Ringnecks
Indian Ringnecks are beautiful, highly intelligent, and talkative parrots, but they are generally not recommended for first-time bird owners. They require highly experienced handling due to their independent, sometimes aloof nature, tendency to go through difficult "bluffing" (aggression) stages, and loud vocalizations.
Social Needs: While they are less "clingy" than some other parrots, they still need significant daily out-of-cage time and interaction to prevent them from becoming territorial or reverting to wild traits.
Independent Nature: These birds generally prefer a "hands-off" relationship compared to other parrots. While some allow cuddling, many prefer to simply hang out, play, and ride on your shoulder without being handled constantly.
The Bluffing Phase: Young Ringnecks often go through a challenging hormonal stage where they may become aggressive, nippy, and fearful. This phase requires an experienced, patient owner who will not reinforce negative behavior.
Loud Calls: They are very vocal birds that frequently whistle, chatter, and make a high-pitched flock call that can easily travel through walls.
