Green Cheeked Conures

Green cheek conures make incredibly affectionate, entertaining companions. However, before bringing one home, you must consider their 25- to 30-year lifespan, their high demand for daily out-of-cage interaction, and their notoriously messy habits, which include tossing food and chewing on household items.

Long-Term Commitment: These birds live between 20 to 30 years, requiring decades of financial and emotional investment. You will need a backup care plan in case of major life changes or emergencies.

Social Needs: Green cheeks are highly social and require several hours of out-of-cage interaction and attention daily to prevent behavioral issues like separation anxiety or feather plucking.

Noise Levels: While relatively quiet compared to larger parrots, they can still produce loud, shrill squawks and calls.

The "Mess" Factor: Conures are notoriously messy. Expect to clean up thrown food, discarded toy parts, and droppings daily, as well as protecting your wooden furniture and valuables from their natural urge to chew.

Safety & Environment: Because they are fragile, you must keep them away from other pets like dogs and cats, whose saliva or scratches can be fatal. You also need to remove household hazards like toxic cookware (PTFE/Teflon), scented candles, and certain indoor plants.

Dietary Needs: They cannot survive on a seed-only diet, which causes severe health issues. Their daily diet requires a high-quality pellet mix supplemented heavily with fresh vegetables, fruits, and whole grains.
